Why CCTV?

There is something called the Hawthorne Effect, in which humans will alter their behaviour when they know they are being watched. The simple presence of cameras will often deter would be criminals. Now cameras are not a catch all. Obvious a disguise, poor lighting, and resolution can diminish their effect. Also, while the Hawthorne Effect does indeed alter human behaviour, it is also diminished over time as the observed grow comfortable with being watched.

Why Restricted Locks?

Unfortunately, from time to time theft or vandalism can be internal. A disgruntled employee may make themselves a copy of their key prior to returning it upon termination. Returning later to destroy the property or steal product. A restricted keyway can greatly decrease the risk of this occuring, as a restricted key can only be copied for authorized individuals.

Astragals?!

An astragal? What the heck is that? Yeah, I know it’s a weird word. An astragal is the metal bars you’ll often see running down the entire length of the door. Their purpose is to help prevent break-ins by prying the door open. Flat plates can disallow the pry bar from getting between the door and the frame, and a “3-Bend” changes where the leverage is being applied.

If you have less than 50 Employees, Located in BC in a commercial or light industry zone, have an exterior entrance which serves as the primary entrance for customers, and have a BC Registration or Incorporation number then you are likely eligible for the grants.
