Repair Your Locks Before It’s Too Late

It’s that time of year again. The snow is here, the windows are frosty. So are your locks. Now is the time to repair or replace your faulty or dying door hardware. Every year countless Canadians are getting locked out of their home as a result of a broken lock. Whether a key snaps in the cylinder, or the entire bolt goes, it happens every day. Call your local Langley locksmith before you get left out in the cold.

When To Service Your Lock

Is your key sticking a bit? Does it bite a bit when you turn it? Kind of hard to pull the key out? Then it’s time to repair your locks. It might work for a day, a week, or a month. However, if your lock is already having some issues, the cold will amplify it. This is also the time of year when our homes begin to contract. You might find your lock doesn’t move quite as smooth, or gets hung up on the frame a bit. This is because as the weather changes and gets colder, your home will shrink just a little bit. This is far more noticeable in wood frame construction rather than concrete or steel. Either way, it’s better to deal with it now, than paying for an after hours bill. While Crono Lock doesn’t charge extra for weekends or night calls, many locksmiths do. What could have been a simple service call can easily turn into a few hundred dollars.

We recommend regular maintenance of your locks, such as cleaning with WD-40 and lubricating with KPL. More information on general maintenance can be found on our Lubricants and Cleaners blog post. Cleaning and lubricating your locks at the very least every year goes a long way in maintaining a well functioning lock.
